With more than 250 confirmed cases of measles across several states as of March 2025, many of your readers may very well be wondering what to know and do.
This isn’t a widespread infection at this point that’s impacting millions, but this is a time when media companies can use the power of their platforms to help keep the public informed and safe.
There’s definitely some serviceable content that media companies can create this month around measles, but also some ways to get paid partners involved as well.
Here are a few ideas:
1. Create an overall, linked-up guide
One of our clients updated a guide they had on measles and children by reporting the latest news with the outbreak and new things parents should know about.
This is a great opportunity to touch on a host of issues like signs to watch out for, who’s most at risk, if there are any cases locally and what to do if you think your child may have measles.
This kind of guide not only provides an avenue to educate your audience but can also be a portal to a host of resources that is valuable to your readers.
- + Other story ideas: A breakdown on measle vaccines, how schools are preparing and myths/facts about measles and vaccines.
2. Answer questions through a paid program
This idea brings me back to the start of COVID when news organizations were bringing in experts to have readers’ questions answered about the virus.
You could do the same thing right now and address many of the things noted in that guide above (which could be sponsored) all through questions actual readers have. If one person is wondering about something, chances are others are too.
Here’s how to make this a paid program: Build a four-week program where each week a different medical professional — from the same hospital or different ones — answers a question in a Q&A style about measles. In addition, if you record the interview, you could generate a Reel with their answer to pair along with the content. This could be a single answer or a tip-oriented Reel.
This is a nice way of offering your audience information they are seeking and building branded content revenue all at the same time.
3. The keywords and questions people have
As you consider the topics for a guide and questions that a doctor could answer, it’s important to know the top keywords around the topic of measles. Here’s what I found this week:
- Measles outbreak 2025
- Measles symptoms
- MMR vaccine availability
- Measles cases in [specific location]
- Preventing measles spread
And before you approach a hospital, it would be smart to understand the questions that readers are asking. Here are some of the top search queries I was able to identify:
- What are the symptoms of measles?
- How does measles spread?
- How effective is the MMR vaccine?
- What should I do if I or someone in my family shows symptoms?
- Are there any recent measles cases in my area?
